The formula

Link = your page + ?utm_source=...&utm_medium=...&utm_campaign=... (plus utm_term and utm_content if you use them).

How to read your result

  • Keep names lower case and consistent: "Facebook" and "facebook" show as two sources in reports.
  • Do not add UTM tags to links inside your own website; they start a new session and hide the real source.

UTM builder: questions.

Anything else, ask us directly.

What are UTM parameters?

Tags added to the end of a link that tell analytics tools where a visit came from: the source (such as google or newsletter), the medium (such as cpc or email) and the campaign name, with optional term and content tags.

Do I need UTM tags on Google Ads links?

Not if Google Ads is linked to Google Analytics with auto-tagging on; the click ID carries the details. Use UTM tags for other platforms, emails, social posts and print.

Which UTM parameters are required?

utm_source, utm_medium and utm_campaign should always be set. utm_term and utm_content are optional.
